New Kids on the Block - The Ultimate Boy Band
Submitted by admin on Mon, 2008-04-07 19:29.The phenomenon known as the "boy band" exploded onto the music scene in the 1980s, and New Kids are one of the most dynamic and interesting of them all. Organized, talented, and packed with ideas, NKOTB have sold over 70 million albums around the world, and have recently announced exciting plans for a reunion!
A quintessential boy band must be highly skilled at both singing and dancing, and when pop mastermind Maurice Starr decided to form the ultimate boy band in Boston in 1984, he interviewed hundreds of kids. Just a handful emerged as the chosen ones - and New Kids on the Block was born. Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood, Jordan and Jonathan Knight, and Joey McIntyre; these names would soon be on the lips of every teenage girl in America, and New Kids on the Block tickets sought by kids in huge numbers. Their self-titled debut album remained mired in relative obscurity, but their second offering, Hangin' Tough produced the single "Please Don't Go Girl," which rocketed to Number Ten on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. America was now put on notice; TV appearances, and more singles, namely "You Got It (The Right Stuff)" and "I'll Be Loving You (Forever)," hit the Number Five and Number One spots respectively. New Kids had arrived on the block, and they were unstoppable.
